Rewires

House & Business Rewires

Whether your property needs a complete or partial rewire, Bright Spark can take you from the first consultation through to hand-over. We work directly with you or alongside your builder, on homes and commercial premises across Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells, Sevenoaks, Crowborough and the surrounding areas.

All work is carried out to BS7671 standards, with building control notification under Part P of the building regulations, by NICEIC approved electricians. That means the work is certified, compliant and signed off properly.

Do You Need a Full or Partial Rewire?

Not every property needs the whole lot ripped out. A full rewire replaces all the cabling, sockets, switches and the consumer unit throughout the property — usually the right call for older houses with original wiring, or where an inspection has flagged widespread problems. A partial rewire tackles specific circuits or areas, such as a kitchen, an extension, or a single floor.

The honest answer for most people is: you don't know until it's been looked at. If you're trying to work out whether yours is due, our guide on the warning signs it's time to rewire walks through what to look for. One sign worth knowing about is green goo leaking from older cables and sockets — where a full rewire is usually the only real fix.

How Much Does a Rewire Cost?

There's no such thing as a standard rewire price. Karen gets calls every week from people wanting a verbal quote over the phone for "a three-bed" or "a typical house" — and the truth is it can't be done accurately that way.

The cost depends on a number of variables:

  • The power supply to the property
  • How the property is constructed
  • The type of floors and ceilings (and how easily cables can be run through them)
  • The number of rooms
  • Legislative and compliance requirements
  • The type and style of sockets and switches you choose
  • Your lighting requirements, inside and out

A physical site visit is essential to give you a competitive, accurate quote — not a guess that changes once the work starts. Our pricing and rates are transparent: see our Rates & Fixed Prices page. But for a rewire specifically, a separate site visit and written quotation is always recommended.

Why Use Bright Spark Rather Than a One-Man Band?

Most rewires are quoted by sole traders — one electrician and a van. We work differently. Because we have a team, a rewire can be planned and scheduled so several electricians work together on site, which gets the job done properly and more quickly, with less disruption to your home or business.

With over 25 years in the industry, Bright Spark has built a strong reputation for problem solving — and a fair bit of our work is putting right wiring installed long before these towns became commuter country.

We can also offer expert advice at the design stage on the type and placement of lighting, drawn from practical experience. Getting that input before the design is finalised often reduces installation costs and helps you set a realistic budget you can stick to.

What's Included in a Bright Spark Rewire?

Our rewire installations cover:

  • Full or partial rewiring of electrics
  • Electric showers
  • Connection to heating systems and boilers
  • Security and flood lighting
  • Garden and ornamental lighting
  • Smoke detectors
  • Electric radiators and underfloor heating

If a rewire flags up the need for a new consumer unit, we handle that too — see our Fuse Boards service. And if you want the property's condition assessed before committing, our Electrical Testing & EICR service gives you the full picture first.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a house rewire cost? There's no standard price — it depends on the property's size, construction, floor and ceiling types, the number of rooms, and the sockets, switches and lighting you choose. A site visit is the only way to give an accurate, competitive quote.

How long does a rewire take? It varies with the size of the property and whether it's a full or partial rewire. Because Bright Spark works as a team rather than a single electrician, jobs are typically completed more quickly. We'll give you a realistic timescale with your written quote.

Do I need a full rewire or just a partial one? Only an inspection can tell you for certain. Older properties with original wiring often need a full rewire, while newer homes may only need specific circuits or areas updated.

Will the work be certified? Yes. All rewires are carried out to BS7671 standards by NICEIC approved electricians, with Part P building control notification where required, so you receive proper certification.

Do you cover my area? We cover Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells, Sevenoaks, Crowborough and the surrounding areas of Kent and East Sussex.

What is really great about Bright Spark Electrical is that they communicate well and get the job done precisely exactly as agreed and bang on time. The job is thoroughly discussed beforehand, you know who is coming and when and have a full list of the parts to be installed. They perform tasks efficiently with no mess. They have done jobs for me in Tunbridge Wells, both in the Culverden Down area and at High Brooms and I would recommend them

Elizabeth, Tunbridge Wells

I had an emergency situation arising from a constantly tripping appliance. A call to Bright Sparks, who have helped me before, led me to their website’s ‘Knowledge Centre’ and although I’ve used similar help sites before this was excellent – clear, well laid out, and logically organised – and as someone with zero electrical knowledge I managed to find the fault myself! I followed up the situation on the phone and got more advice. Really impressed by the Bright Sparks service and will continue to use them and their Knowledge Centre again in the future.

Dave, Tonbridge

‘Excellent service, quick and very efficient. Tidy work. No problem recommending Karen and her team. Will definitely use these guys again!’

Angela, Tunbridge Wells

I would highly recommend Karen and her team for any electrical jobs you have. From the moment I first emailed my enquiry the service was super quick (I appreciate this depends on their other jobs at the time). We received a quote that was clear with the works to be done and price was reasonable. On the day the electrician (Joe I believe) turned up on time, did a fab job and even tidied up after himself. The old ceiling lights we had were a little tricky to get off and pulled some of the plaster off too, but he filled it in and made it as good as new.Great job from beginning to end. Thank you Bright Spark

Joanne - Tunbridge Wells

We are very pleased with the high standard of the recent work carried out by Bright Spark and would happily recommend the service. We were particularly impressed by the quick response to our online enquiry and the email follow up by Karen after the job had been completed. We will definitely use her for any electrical job in the future.

Katie, Tonbridge
