How Bright should Kitchen Lights be?

The kitchen is the heart of your home, and on average the kitchen has the lights on for longer periods of the day than the majority of your rooms in your home.

The lights need to provide functionality for you to cook and see what you are doing. However they also can just be required for illumination for certain tasks in certain areas, or you just need some illumination when you are passing through, or just popping down at night for a cup of tea or getting something from the fridge. This can create a great effect should you be just using the island or you are going to be eating at the island and you do not need a full blaze of light whilst eating.

Under cupboard lights are great for when cooking as they provide additional light to the area. But can be switched off when you are just carrying out normal tasks or it is daylight and there is light streaming in from the windows.

When having a number of pendant style lights over a central island or Peninsula, it is important that you get all the lights level.
